UCO BUSINESS STUDENT TAKES FOURTH IN NATIONAL SALES CHALLENGE

University of Central Oklahoma College of Business student Jonathan Carter recently placed fourth in the speed-selling competition at the ninth annual National Sales Challenge, a series of selling competitions and workshops held in November at the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

The competition is designed to strengthen the skills of students and provide opportunities to network with business executives from companies around the country. The speed-selling competition consists of a two-minute period in which student participants must convince judges — top-level individuals from major companies — to hire them.

More than 100 college students representing 36 universities from across the country participated in the competition.

“I am so thankful for the opportunities UCO has given me. I have always heard hard work pays off, now I can attest to that. Placing fourth in the country is a definite win for my internal motivation,” said Carter, a senior marketing and professional selling major from Shawnee, Oklahoma.

In addition to Carter’s individual win, UCO professional selling major Cameron Dotter, along with Carter, placed 10th overall in the team competition.

“All credit goes to these two students for taking time and effort to prepare for the competition. I could not be prouder of their achievements,” said Manoshi Samaraweera, Ph.D., assistant professor of marketing at UCO.
