UCO DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN SHOWCASES PROGRESSION OF STUDENT DESIGN WITH ‘LEVEL UP!’ EXHIBIT

The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design will open “Level Up! An Exhibition of Work from the UCO Department of Design” with a free, open-to-the-public reception from 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 4 in the Donna Nigh Gallery, located on the third and fourth floor of the Nigh University Center.

“Level Up!” highlights the outcomes of freshman through senior level course work created by graphic and interior design students from the previous academic year.

“This exhibit provides a visual tour of our design program, showcasing the evolution and accelerated outcome of our students’ work from the time they enter the program to their final portfolios,” said Amy Johnson, M.F.A., chair of the Department of Design.

The exhibit presents work in sequential order based on class level, beginning with freshman foundation work – hand skills, drawing, 3-D comprehension skills – transitioning to branding and packaging, and then to advanced design renderings and ad campaigns.

“This exhibit is a wonderful guide to all those curious about what it is exactly design students accomplish in the program – how their work progresses, where they start as freshman and the level they achieve by graduation,” explained Johnson.

“This exhibit is also a great warm-up for our second exhibit opening in October, ‘Bring It! The Best of the Best,’ which highlights faculty favorites produced by design students in the past 3-5 years,” Johnson concluded.

“Level Up!” will be on display through Oct. 16.
