UCO CONCERT CHORALE INVITED TO PERFORM AT INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
The University of Central Oklahoma Concert Chorale will perform at the Fifth Annual Campina Grande International Music Festival in Brazil July 20-27. The UCO Concert Chorale is one of only four university choirs invited to perform at this festival.
The festival highlights the areas of vocal music, strings, brass and woodwinds and features students and professionals throughout the U.S., Brazil and France.
The UCO Concert Chorale will perform a survey of American choral literature, including Clement Jannequin, Herbert Howells and a piece by Central composer-in-residence Samuel Magrill, D.M.A., among others.
The participating Central students will also have the opportunity to attend workshops at the festival, ranging from vocal and conducting master classes to studies on the Brazilian art song.
“The whole thing will be a great experience for our students,” said Karl Nelson, D.M.A., Central associate professor of voice and conductor for the UCO Concert Chorale.
“These students will have a lot of opportunities to work with and learn from international, professional musicians. Plus they’ll gain the cultural experience of performing in another country, which adds to their credibility when they compete in the professional realm of music post graduation.”
Nelson will be teaching a workshop at the festival, as will Central assistant professor of voice Rob Glaubitz, D.M.A.
The trip was made affordable to the students with help from the UCO Foundation.
“We are so thankful for the monetary support the university has given us,” Nelson explained.
“Students only had to pay a fraction of the cost thanks to the UCO Foundation.”
