UCO TO PRESENT BELOVED COMEDIC OPERAS ‘L’ELISIR D’AMORE’
The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will present the Italian opera “L’Elisir d’Amore” at 7:30 p.m. April 24-26 and 2 p.m. April 27 at Mitchell Hall Theater, located on the UCO campus.
This comedic opera follows peasant Nemorino as he uses a love potion in attempts to woo landowner Adina.
Having first premiered in the 19th century, “L’Elisir d’Amore” has since made its way into standard opera repertoire.
“This is one of the most famous comedies of all time,” said Kevin Eckard, D.M.A., professor of voice and director of this production.
“We chose to present this opera because our current students have the talent to pull off this production and we want to share a fun experience with the community.”
UCO’s production of “L’Elisir d’Amore” will feature 10 Central students double casted for the five leading roles, in addition to a student chorus and student orchestra.
“L’Elisir d’Amore” will be performed in Italian but translated surtitles will be displayed on a screen above the stage.
Tickets are $14 for adults; and $10 for senior citizens, UCO faculty and staff with a valid I.D. and non-UCO students. Tickets can be purchased by the Mitchell Hall Box Office at 405-974-3375 or by visiting www.click4tix.com/uco. Central students get one free ticket per valid I.D.
