UCO THEATRE ARTS DEPARTMENT’S ‘NEW PLAY STUDIO’ KICKS OFF WITH A STAGE READING OF ‘FALL OF ADAM’

The University of Central Oklahoma Theatre Arts Department will present a stage reading of “Fall of Adam,” an original full-length play by Central theatre arts student Gabriel Pranter, at 7:30 p.m. April 13 in the Pegasus Theater, located in the Liberal Arts Building on campus.

This stage reading will serve as the inaugural event for “New Play Studio,” a production endeavor to help student playwrights develop original work in a supportive, artistic and educational environment.

A coming-of-age-story, “Fall of Adam” follows a high school senior on prom night as he recollects traumatic events of his childhood to uncover how a troubled past may have determined the present.

Playwright Pranter will graduate in May with his bachelor’s in theatre performance.

Theatre arts chair Chris Domanski, M.F.A., believes stage readings are a great public event where audience members can be involved in the development of a new play and the playwright can gain constructive feedback.

“Public stage readings are very productive and common in the theatre arts realm,” said Domanski.

“New Play Studio” was created due to the high interest among theatre arts majors to write a play.

“A lot of the curriculum and opportunities we provide form organically based on the interest of the students,” added Domanski.

“’New Play Studio’ is another one of those endeavors. An experience like this further rounds out their education at UCO.”

The stage reading is free and open to the public.
