UCO NURSING STUDENT RECEIVES STATE REGENTS SCHOLARSHIP THROUGH MERCY PARTNERSHIP
Daubri Austin, a senior University of Central Oklahoma nursing student from Norman, was selected as the recipient of the 2014 UCO Mercy Scholarship, awarded by UCO and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE).
The OSRHE Economic Development Grant for the Partnership Recognition Program is designed to highlight successful partnerships between institutions and businesses to further cultivate the higher education learning environment.
UCO and the OSRHE each contributed $500 to the $1,000 tuition waiver awarded to Austin, an advanced nurse technician in the emergency department at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City. She has worked at Mercy for two years and plans to become a full-time registered nurse in the intensive care unit and emergency department after she graduates in May.
The recipient of the UCO Mercy scholarship must be a current UCO student working toward a degree that will further their career at the Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City.
“I’m honored to be the recipient of the UCO Mercy Scholarship and I’m thankful for the relationship I’ve had with Mercy for over two years,” Austin said.
“My experience at Mercy has been invaluable to my education and allowed me to grow in my own practice.”
The university and Mercy have an ongoing partnership, including Mercy Clinic at UCO, an on-campus medical clinic located on the first floor of the UCO Wellness Center. The clinic is available to the campus community and general public and offers a full range of primary care services. This includes sports physicals, wellness exams, and medical exams for children and adults, X-rays, flu shots and more.
Mercy Clinic at UCO serves as the presenting sponsor for the UCO Healthy Campus Initiative, creating a healthy campus culture and providing student leadership learning experiences in health and wellness. Central was also recently selected as a Certified Healthy Campus as part of the “Shape Your Future” campaign by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Central received the excellence designation, the highest level of certification awarded to state institutions.
