USA SITTING VOLLEYBALL HIRES KRAEER AS UCO-BASED MENS SITTING TEAM HEAD COACH

The University of Central Oklahoma-based U.S. men’s sitting volleyball team welcomes a new head coach, Quinton Kraeer. The university is the official training site for both the men’s and women’s sitting volleyball teams.

Kraeer will take over the men’s program after serving as an assistant for the last several months. He brings nine years of volleyball coaching experience to the team, and has served as a pipeline assistant for both the men’s and women’s teams since 2008.

“Quinton brings a significant amount of sitting volleyball knowledge to the men’s team,” said Bill Hamiter, director of sitting volleyball high performance and women’s national sitting team head coach.

“Because he has been an assistant coach with the men’s team, he’ll be able to make an easy transition since he understands the team’s current systems. Quinton will make an immediate impact with the team as they prepare for the World Championships in June.”

Central is an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site. Athletes can train for Olympic volleyball and any Paralympic sport at the university. Currently, Central hosts resident athletes in the Paralympic sports of sitting volleyball, archery, track and field and powerlifting and the Olympic sport of taekwondo.

“UCO is pleased that USA Volleyball has made further commitment to the national sitting volleyball teams with the hiring of coach Kraeer,” said Katrina Shaklee, executive director of the UCO Wellness Center.

“We’re proud to be designated by USA Volleyball as its official training site for both the men’s and women’s teams and will continue to provide support as both teams prepare for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.”

Kraeer’s position is fully funded by USA Volleyball, and he will work out of the Wellness Center where both the men’s and women’s teams train.

The U.S. Men’s sitting team qualified for the 2014 ParaVolley World Championships, set for June 6-23 in Poland by earning the silver medal at the 2013 ParaVolley Pan American Zonal Championships, hosted at the Wellness Center in October 2013.
