Miss Black UCO Celebrates 30th Year of Scholarship Pageant

MISS BLACK UCO CELEBRATES 30TH YEAR OF SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT

The University of Central Oklahoma will host its 30th annual Miss Black UCO scholarship pageant at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 in Constitution Hall, located in the Nigh University Center on Central’s campus. Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are free with a UCO ID and $7 without.

The pageant, themed “The Essence of Elegance: A Woman Emerged,” is sponsored by Central’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) and the UCO Black Student Association. Senior broadcasting and public relations major Vincent Burr will serve as emcee.

Winners of Miss Black UCO will be eligible for nearly $3,000 in tuition waivers, with the overall winner receiving $1,600, the first runner-up receiving $850 and the second runner-up receiving $500. Additional awards include the People’s Choice Award, Future Business Woman Award, Jackie Shaw’s Photogenic Award and the Lyndall Walls Director Award.

The women’s talents vary from monologue to martial arts to mime, while platforms include domestic violence awareness, homelessness awareness and lupus awareness, among others.
