ACM@UCO BANDS TO PERFORM AT OKC BARONS GAMES
Student and alumni bands from the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) will be the featured entertainment at various Oklahoma City Barons hockey games this season.
ACM@UCO bands scheduled to perform include The Hideouts on Dec. 21, What? on Jan. 11, New Westerns on Jan. 18, The Argots on Feb. 15, Good Culture on March 1, Moongiant on March 15, and Honey on April 5. Bands will play before the games start as guests enter the Cox Convention Center Arena, where the games take place, and during game breaks.
The bands will play a variety of music from covers of today’s pop hits to original music that the students have created spanning such genres as rock, indie rock, country and folk rock.
ACM@UCO Business Development Manager Derek Brown said students are excited to return to the Barons games for a second year.
“It’s a great opportunity for our students to get involved in the community and gain more experience performing for larger crowds,” he said.
The ACM@UCO opened its doors to its first class of students in August 2009 on one floor of the Oklahoma Hardware Building in Bricktown on Flaming Lips Alley. Since then, the program has grown to fill three floors of the building and the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, also located in Bricktown.
Based on the successful model from the original ACM in England, the ACM@UCO is an innovative music program unlike any other in the U.S., offering an industry-based, “real world” educational experience for those interested in a career in contemporary music.
The ACM@UCO offers two-year associate degree programs in bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, music business, music production and vocals, with the option to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Technology degree.
