UCO JACKSON COLLEGE OF GRADUATE STUDIES HONORS SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY STUDENT
The University of Central Oklahoma Jackson College of Graduate Studies has awarded the E.C. Hall Graduate Scholar Award for 2013 to Brittney “Nikki” Perkins. The award is given each year to the graduate student with the highest academic record.
Perkins completed her masters of science in speech-language pathology at Central in May 2013 with a 4.0 GPA. She is a 2006 graduate of Weatherford High School and a 2010 graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
Scott McLaughlin, Ph.D., director of speech-language pathology at Central, noted that Perkins was an exemplary student, clinician, and citizen throughout her graduate program at UCO. Perkins served as an officer in UCO chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association and as an Inez Miller Endowed Chair graduate assistant during the first year of her graduate program.
“In her off-campus internships, Nikki maintained the highest level of conduct and performance, representing our program and UCO in the best possible manner. In her internships at Valir Rehabilitation, Kindred Specialty Hospital, and OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, as well as in Choctaw Public Schools, she was praised for her initiative, creativity and natural ability to relate to clients in a calm, effective manner,” McLaughlin said.
Perkins is now working as a speech-language pathologist in Choctaw Public Schools at Choctaw Elementary and in a day care.
