UCO FACULTY AND STAFF EXCEED FUNDRAISING GOAL FOR THE UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

The University of Central Oklahoma’s 2013 United Way Campaign raised $68,079 for the non-profit, the university’s campaign task force announced on Wednesday. The 2013 fundraising is a 13.5 percent increase over Central’s 2012 United Way Campaign, exceeding the university’s $60,000 goal and demonstrating a continued commitment to leadership in civic and community engagement.

More than 40 percent of Central’s full and part-time faculty and staff contributed, and 68 percent of those donations came via payroll deduction. With the theme, “We Can Make a Difference – Just Check the Box,” the university encouraged faculty and staff to opt for payroll deductions in order to make donating more convenient.

“The success of UCO’s 2013 United Way Campaign can largely be attributed to the focus on the easy giving plan of payroll deduction and the willingness for the UCO family to embrace and address the needs of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area," said Rob Howard, director of project management for Student Affairs at Central and co-chair of Central’s campaign.

Martha Brennan, Ph.D., women’s track coach at Central, served alongside Howard as co-chair.

Ashleigh Arnall, Canadian County director and resource development account executive for the United Way of Central Oklahoma, and Donna Lawrence, 2013 campaign co-chair for the United Way of Central Oklahoma and president of Oklahoma City’s Success Redesign, were on hand Wednesday to accept the university’s donation.

Central is the United Way of Central Oklahoma’s largest higher education partner. The United Way supports 130 community programs at 62 partner agencies that provide vital resources to those in need in central Oklahoma.
