UCO SCHOOL OF MUSIC CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN, CHAMBER MUSIC WITH PAIR OF PERFORMANCES
The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will close October with a pair of concerts. The Central voice faculty will celebrate the spooky season with its “Halloween V” concert Oct. 29, and the Melton Gallery will host the “Faculty Chamber Music” concert Oct. 31.
According to Barbara Streets, Ph.D., “Halloween V” is one of the most popular in the Faculty Artist Concert Series, a yearlong performance series that features Central music faculty members. All concerts in the series take place on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth Street in Edmond. Proceeds support scholarships and the UCO School of Music.
In “Halloween V,” Central’s voice faculty dress in festive costumes and perform works that highlight the individual talents of the faculty.
Audience members are also encouraged to come in costume and participate in a costume contest.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the UCO School of Music at 405-974-5004. Admission is free for Central students, faculty and staff with UCO I.D.
The following Thursday, the Melton Gallery Performance Series will continue with the “Faculty Chamber Music” concert from 4-6 p.m. in the Melton Gallery, located in the Art and Design Building.
Admission for this fall semester series is free and audience members are invited to come and go as they please. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and refreshments are provided.
The “Faculty Chamber Music” concert features an array of faculty members performing alongside students in unique combinations, such as a string quintet with two violas and a duo for flute and marimba.
“It’s one thing for students learn from listening to their teachers in a classroom setting and another to work alongside your teachers, as peers, in a professional setting,” said Ralph Morris, D.M.A., Central viola professor and featured performer.
“This concert provides students the invaluable experience of performing with their professors.”
