UCO WAKEBOARD CLUB TAKES THIRD AT NATIONALS

With not even a full year under its belt, the University of Central Oklahoma Wakeboard Club is already excelling at the national level.

The group, which has been recognized as a UCO competitive sport club for only five months, recently placed third overall at the Collegiate Cable National Championships, hosted by Empire Wake at the Texas Ski Club in New Braunfels, Texas.

The club was one of over 30 teams in the competition. UCO took six competitors, most of who competed in the advanced or open division.

“To be able to place third in the nation after only five months is outstanding,” said Logan Hoover, club president.

“We’re all amazed at how well we did. We beat out some teams that have had established wakeboard clubs for many years. We’re all just like a family and we push each other to be better while riding. It’s really special.”

Hoover (advanced), Caden Hardin (advanced), Michael Long (intermediate), Trey Romine (open), Taylor Kress (open) and Austin Zalinski (open) all competed for UCO, helping the club to beat out the University of Central Florida and the University of Texas for a third place finish.

The club qualified for the national championship by placing sixth at a qualifying competition in Waco, Texas last April, and will try to do so again in November, when they return for 2014 qualifying.

“We are really excited about the future,” Hoover said. “We wouldn’t be able to do this without the help of the UCO Competitive Sport Clubs program. They’ve been amazing and we can’t thank them enough.”
