UCO TO HOST SERIES OF EVENTS FOR SEXUAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK SEPT. 23-27
The University of Central Oklahoma and the UCO Wellness Center will host Sexual Health Awareness Week Sept. 23-27 to educate and inform the Central community about sexual health and healthy practices.
“Our goal is to empower students to choose behaviors that promote health, reduce risk and strengthen their relationships,” said Brittney Criswell, Central’s health promotion coordinator.
Two main events highlight the week, beginning with “The Big Bed” on Monday. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the clock tower at Broncho Lake, students can visit “The Big Bed” to receive information about sexual health topics. Students are encouraged to sign the bed sheets to express their personal views regarding sexual health.
On Thursday, “Sex in the Dark” will take place in Constitution Hall, located in the Nigh University Center, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. “Sex in the Dark” is an educational program that allows students to ask questions anonymously about sex, sexuality and sexual health. Students will submit questions through text messaging to a panel of professionals.
Partners for Sexual Health Awareness week include UCO Healthy Campus, UCO Wellness Center, Teen emPower!, Planned Parenthood, Oklahoma State Department of Health, UCO Peer Health Leaders, UCO Community/Public Health Club and UCO Student Alliance for Equality (SAFE).
