UCO AWARDED MILITARY FRIENDLY SCHOOLS DESIGNATION FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
For the second consecutive year, the University of Central Oklahoma has been recognized as a top university for veterans and active military.
Central is included on the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list, which honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
“Central recognizes and respects its unique position to serve veterans, military service members and their dependents as they pursue degrees and careers,” said Beth Adele, director of UCO’s Office of Career Services, who serves as the adviser for the UCO Student Veterans of America and helped establish the Veterans Higher Education Resources Office (VetHERO) on campus.
“We continually search for ways to meet the needs of this distinct population, working toward more integrated higher education services. This designation helps us let our country’s servicemen and women know that Central is a place they can succeed.”
Central has many different resources for student veterans through the VetHERO, the Veteran Support Alliance and Student Veterans of America. These on-campus resources address the academic, financial, physical and social needs of Central’s veteran students.
“Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools shows UCO’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, Vice President at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran.
“The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.”
