UCO PRESENTS AN EVENING OF DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY
The University of Central Oklahoma presents an evening of design and photography with the opening of two exhibits on Aug. 22 in the UCO Nigh University Center.
A reception will be held for both exhibits from 4-5:30 p.m. on the third floor of the center. The reception is free and open to the public.
The photography exhibit “A Walk Through Italy” features work by Central English professor Sandra Mayfield, Ph.D., and will be displayed on the third floor of the UCO Nigh University Center in front of the Heritage Room.
Mayfield recently participated in a photographic study expedition with the National Geographic Society, where she toured Italy equipped with a Nikon D300 camera and telephoto lens.
Mayfield’s expedition covered a vast area of Italy, including the cities of Florence and Rome as well as the quaint rural farmlands of Cinta Terre.
“There are no factories in Italy, no smoke to dilute the skies, so the air is clear, which enhances the already picturesque scenery,” said Mayfield.
An avid professor of women’s literature, Shakespeare, 17th century prose and poetry and the Bible as Literature, Mayfield believes the images literature has created in her mind transcend into her photographic composition.
Central’s Department of Design will showcase the 2013 student ADDY Award winners in the Donna Nigh Exhibit Hall located on the third and fourth floors of the UCO Nigh University Center.
The exhibit will feature a collection of 38 Central graphic design student projects that won a total of 92 Student ADDY Awards at the local ADDY Award competition held earlier this year.
The ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest competition, attracting more than 50,000 entries every year in local competition throughout the nation. The student ADDY Awards are a three-tier national competition, which recognizes and rewards creative excellence by students and is sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and National Ad 2.
Local student ADDY Award-winners advanced to the AAF District 10 competition, where Central snagged another 57 student ADDY Awards before advancing to the national ADDY competition, where Central students won 12 awards.
“We look forward to sharing this momentous achievement with the rest of the Central community through this show,” said Ruki Ravikumar, M.F.A., chair of the UCO Department of Design.
Both exhibits will continue through Sept. 16.
