UCO STUDENT CHOSEN AS BRAD HENRY INTERNATIONAL SCHOLAR
As one of only ten students from Oklahoma's regional universities selected as a Brad Henry International Scholar, University of Central Oklahoma student Hannah Kostelecky will spend the spring 2014 semester participating in an international study and internship program at Swansea University in Wales.
Established in 2008 by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the Brad Henry International Scholar program provides a $12,000 stipend for selected students to participate in semester-long study or research programs affiliated with Swansea University.
Kostelecky is a native of Oklahoma City and junior Kinesiology major.
“I am thrilled to have this opportunity and I feel so extremely blessed to have been chosen for this honor,” said Kostelecky.
As a student at Central, Kostelecky is the president of the exercise science club, secretary of UCOmmute and is an active member of the pre medicine and health professions club.
While studying abroad at Swansea University, Kostelecky said the courses she plans to take include history, culture, a study tour, and sports psychology.
No stranger to international travel, Kostelecky has traveled through various opportunities including mission trips with her church to Mexico and been on family vacations to Jamaica, Honduras, and Belize.
“When I was younger I used to look at pictures of European countries and dream about the possibility of visiting them one day. This scholarship is a dream come true for me. I am most excited about being able to visit places that I have only dreamed of visiting,” said Kostelecky.
“I hope that through my time in Wales I gain a new appreciation for each day and experience I encounter.”
