UCO TO HOLD JIU-JITSU INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM IN JUNE
The University of Central Oklahoma Wellness Center will offer a jiu-jitsu instructional program June 3-24. The class will meet every Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the UCO Wellness Center group fitness room.
The jiu-jitsu system practices techniques aimed at manipulating an opponent’s force against him or herself rather than confronting it with one’s own force. Participants in the program will learn complete body control, how to move from one technique to another to defend against multiple attackers, and how to use joint locks, throws and submission techniques to neutralize an opponent.
“The participants will learn the Japanese art of hand-to-hand combat while improving their physical and mental condition,” said Johnny Watley, Central fitness coordinator.
“This will be a valuable experience for members of the Central and Edmond community.”
Abdalla Khalid, a third-degree black belt in jiu-jitsu, will instruct classes.
The program fee is $40 for Central faculty, staff, students and UCO Wellness Center members and $60 for the public. Participants must be at least 18 years of age or older.
Participants must register at the UCO Wellness Center front desk by May 30.
