ACM@UCO SIGNS EXCHANGE PROGRAM AGREEMENT WITH ORIGINAL ACM IN ENGLAND

The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) recently signed an exchange program agreement with the original ACM in Guildford, England.  The agreement will allow Central ACM students with global opportunities to study with contemporary music experts at the ACM in Guildford.

UCO President Don Betz, Ph.D., and Julia Leggett, CEO of the ACM in Guildford, signed the ACM exchange program agreement on May 9 at UCO.

Both schools hope to have ACM@UCO students participating in the exchange program by spring 2014.

“This exchange program will provide our students with a truly unique and transformative experience,” Scott Booker, CEO of ACM@UCO, said.

“The music industry in the U.K. is thriving and has great talent.  The experience will broaden our students’ perspectives, giving them a sense of the global scope of the industry.”

The original ACM was founded in 1995 and is the world leader in music industry education with schools in the U.K., U.S. and South Africa.  Since its inception, the ACM has sought to provide students with the highest caliber music education and also help them start sustainable careers in the music industry.

Numerous successful musicians are alumni of the ACM in Guildford.  Most notably Ted Dwane, bassist for Mumford and Sons, English folk rock band.

The ACM@UCO opened its doors to its first class of students in August 2009 on one floor of the Oklahoma Hardware Building in Bricktown on Flaming Lips Alley.  Since then, the program has grown to fill three floors of the building and the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, also located in Bricktown.

Based on the successful model from the original ACM in England, the ACM@UCO is an innovative music program unlike any other in the U.S., offering an industry-based, “real world” educational experience for those interested in a career in contemporary music.

From its location in downtown Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district, the ACM@UCO offers two-year associate degree programs in bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, music business, music production and vocals, with the option to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Technology degree.
