UCO’S PRODUCTION OF ‘NO, NO, NANETTE’ TAP DANCES ITS WAY TO MITCHELL HALL THEATER
The University of Central Oklahoma Musical Theatre Division will present the comedic 1920s musical, “No, No Nanette,” at 7:30 p.m., April 4 – 6 and 2 p.m., April 7 at Mitchell Hall Theater located on the UCO campus.
Based on the 1919 Frank Mandel play “My Lady Friends,” this madcap musical follows Bible-publishing businessman Jimmy Smith as he finds himself entangled in a blackmail scheme. Meanwhile, his daughter Nanette begins to shed her conservative roots in attempts to live a wild and exciting life.
The musical originally premiered in England in 1925, with the revival of the production hitting Broadway in 1971.
The revival was first brought to campus during Central’s first year to offer the Bachelor’s of Music in Musical Theatre degree in 1988, created by the late Tamara Long.
Now, 25 years later, “No, No, Nanette” commemorates the anniversary of UCO’s musical theatre degree.
“In addition to this being the celebration event for the musical theatre department’s 25th year, this musical’s demanding tap dancing routines and sparkly, eye-pleasing costumes make this a fun musical to perform and attend,” said Shannon Hurleigh, M.F.A., the show’s director/choreographer.
“It’s definitely the type of musical where you leave your cares in the lobby and just enjoy yourself.”
Tickets are $14 for adults; $10 for senior citizens, Central faculty and staff, and non-UCO students; and $4 for Central students with a Central ID. To purchase tickets, call the Mitchell Hall Theater Box Office at 405-974-3375.
