UCO FACULTY ARTIST CONCERT SERIES TO CELEBRATE AMERICAN MUSIC, PREMIERE THREE NEW COMPOSITIONS APRIL 2
The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will present a concert featuring Central professor of piano, Chindarat Charoenwongse-Shaw, D.M.A., and guest artist, cellist Linda Jennings, D.M.A., at 7:30 p.m. April 2 at the UCO Jazz Lab, located at 100 E. Fifth Street in Edmond.
The performance is a part of the School of Music’s Faculty Artist Concert Series, a yearlong performance series featuring the talents of Central music faculty members. All performances take place on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at the Jazz Lab.
Former Fulbright scholar and Bangkok native, Charoenwongse-Shaw has performed internationally as a pianist. In 2006 she was the soloist for the Thai National Symphony Orchestra, which honored His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 60th Anniversary of His Accession to the Throne.
Charoenwongse-Shaw invited Jennings, associate professor of cello at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), to Central for an All-American music concert.
The two will be performing works by Romantic Era composer Clara K. Rogers and 20th Century composer Samuel Barber in addition to three world-premiere works by contemporary composers.
The three pieces are by contemporary composers Samuel Magrill, D.M.A., Central’s Composer-In-Residence, Keith White, Ph.D., director of the UCO School of Music, and Daniel Perlongo, IUP professor.
“Linda and I both are thrilled to present a variety of musical styles from the Romantic Era to the 20th Century to contemporary compositions. Each piece has very distinctive characteristics that we both found to be intriguing and fun to present to the audience,” said Charoenwongse-Shaw.
The two will tour Thailand together in June with this program and other American music as they collaborate with various universities throughout Thailand.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the UCO School of Music at 405-974-5004. Admission is free for Central students, faculty and staff with a Central I.D. Half of the proceeds will go toward Central Music Scholarships, and the rest will support the school.
