UCO DESIGN STUDENTS RISE TO THE TOP AT 2013 LOCAL ADDY AWARDS, WINNING MORE THAN ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY
The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design once again dominated the student categories at the 2013 Oklahoma City ADDY Awards, with 38 Central graphic design students winning a total of 88 awards.
Of those awards, 29 were gold, 38 silver and 20 bronze. The university also won the coveted “Braggy” award, given to the university with the most student winners.
In addition to winning gold and silver student awards, Central student Shelbi Rosa of Moore won the “Student Best of Show” award for her Package Design project “Pungent Candle Company.”
“The Department of Design is overjoyed with all the awards and so proud of all our student winners,” said Ruki Ravikumar, M.F.A., chair of the UCO Department of Design.
“The large volume of awards also speaks to the overall quality of the design programs at Central. We have done really well in local, regional and national level competitions for the past three years. This speaks to our ability to consistently train students to be good thinkers and creative problem solvers,” she continued.
The ADDY Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more that 50,000 entries every year in the local competitions throughout the nation. The Student ADDY Awards are a three-tier national competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation and National Ad 2, and recognizes and rewards creative excellence by students.
The students awarded the 29 gold awards will automatically advance to the district level, the next tier of the competition. Details about the district award gala are still to be determined.
“Every year more Central design students continue to win more and more student ADDY Awards. I could not be more impressed with the design students and faculty,” said John Clinton, Ph.D., dean of the UCO College of Fine Arts and Design.
“Our design students and faculty are incredibly hardworking and have extremely high standards and they deserve this high honor for their efforts.”
In addition to the 88 ADDY Awards won by Central students, UCO took home three professional gold awards and one Judge’s Special Merit award in Book Design, bringing the grand total to 92 awards won by Central. The professional gold awards will automatically advance to the district level.
