UCO Community Invited To 'Feel Awesome' By Participating In March 7 Blood Drive At Buddy's

UCO COMMUNITY INVITED TO ‘FEEL AWESOME’ BY PARTICIPATING IN MARCH 7 BLOOD DRIVE AT BUDDY’S
Every two seconds someone needs blood. There is no substitute for human blood, and supplies must be constantly renewed. The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) and the University of Central Oklahoma Dining Services will offer students, faculty and staff the chance to potentially save a life at their semiannual blood drive 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., March 7 in Buddy’s Cafeteria, located on the south side of Ayers Ave. near West Hall.
Participants must have a photo ID to donate. Donors will receive a free “Feel Awesome” T-shirt while supplies last, health screenings and donor reward points. If the donor chooses to forgo the T-shirt the funds designated for this item will be redirected to the Global Blood Fund. Residents from the hall and floor with the most participants have the opportunity to win a pizza party.
Although the process of giving blood takes less than an hour, donors need to be aware of a few things that might hinder their ability to donate. Donors cannot donate if they have a low-grade fever, have been tattooed within the past 12 months or are currently taking antibiotics. Donors should eat iron rich foods beforehand and drink plenty of fluids to make sure the donation process goes smoothly.
