UCO SENDS OFF AMBASSADOR IN RESIDENCE KYLE DILLINGHAM FOR WORLD TOUR WITH PREVIEW CONCERT
Before heading out on a U.S. Department of State-sponsored world tour, University of Central Oklahoma Ambassador in Residence Kyle Dillingham and his band, Horseshoe Road, will perform for a home crowd at 3 p.m., Feb. 28 at the International House located at 912 Chowning Ave. in Edmond.
After auditioning last spring, the popular Oklahoma band was selected for a 35-day world tour with the American Voices’ American Music Abroad 2013 program beginning in Washington, D.C. on March 11.
Horseshoe Road, a trio of Dillingham, Peter Markes and Brent Saulsbury, was selected from over 300 groups nationwide.
The spring tour will focus on younger and underserved audiences with little or no access to live American musical performances.
“We are so thrilled to find out that we’ll be sharing Oklahoma symphonic and roots music with the people of Korea, Taiwan, Burma and Russia,” said Dillingham. “It’s quite an honor to represent our country, along with our great state.”
The concert at Central will celebrate their world tour with a traditional Taiwanese High Tea ceremony at 3 p.m. followed by performances by Horseshoe Road and special guest, student pianist and Taiwanese native, Ivan Wong.
Wong and Dillingham will preform some Taiwanese repertoire, as well as some Horseshoe Road favorites.
Also, Dillingham will be joined by Saulsbury to perform what the band will share with the world, including a performance of composer Callen Clarke's specially commissioned arrangement of a traditional Taiwanese song, which they will perform with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra while in Taiwan.
American Voices administers the American Music Abroad program on behalf of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The American Music Abroad program is designed to communicate America's rich musical contributions to the global music scene as it fosters cross-cultural communication and people-to-people connection to global audiences.
This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Reservations must be made by 5 p.m., Feb. 27.
To make reservations, contact Alvin Teh, International House manger, at 405-888-3583 or email email@example.com.
