OKLAHOMA CENTER FOR ARTS EDUCATION SEEKS SCHOOLS FOR ARTS INTEGRATION ‘MAKEOVER’ PROGRAM
The Oklahoma Center for Arts Education (OCAE), a division of the University of Central Oklahoma College of Fine Arts and Design, seeks applicants for its “Extreme Makeover: Arts Education Edition,” a new arts education program open to all Oklahoma schools grades K-12.
The “Extreme Makeover: Arts Education Edition” is designed to demonstrate how the arts can be integrated into K-12 core curriculum (math, science, English, history, technology). UCO College of Fine Arts and Design faculty and staff will lead five classes of up to 30 students each, in hands-on arts education workshops integrating visual art, music, theatre arts, design or dance into each of the workshops.
The winning school will choose five of their teachers to work with the UCO College of Fine Arts and Design to customize the arts education workshops for their classes. The workshops will be hosted during the week of March 11 and will culminate with a live collaborative performance for the chosen school and community members.
The “Extreme Makeover” is not a school or classroom physical makeover or renovation.
“We think that the ‘Extreme Makeover’ is the best way to provide arts outreach to the Oklahoma public schools and their communities,” said Ines Burnham, OCAE director.
“We hope to make this an annual event.”
Any school in Oklahoma is qualified to apply for the “Extreme Makeover.” The program is free for the chosen school to participate in.
The application deadline has been extended to Feb. 28.
