UCO SCHOOL OF MUSIC PRESENTS FAT TUESDAY JAZZ CONCERT
The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will present a Mardi Gras-themed concert featuring the 5th Street Jazz Collective at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth Street in Edmond.
This concert is a crowd favorite of the School of Music’s Faculty Artist Concert Series, a yearlong performance series featuring the talents of Central music faculty members. All performances take place on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at the Jazz Lab.
The show will take place on Fat Tuesday, and thus will consist of a wide variety of traditional New Orleans jazz compositions, some pieces dating back to 100 years old.
“It is music that everyone recognizes and associates with Mardi Gras,” said Brian Gorrell, head of UCO Jazz Studies Division and saxophonist/clarinetist for the 5th Street Jazz Collective.
The 5th Street Jazz Collective is a jazz combo featuring current and former Central music faculty members Lee Rucker, Jeff Kidwell, Danny Vaughan, Dennis Borycki, Michael Geib, David Hardman, and Brian Gorrell.
“This concert is a great time. We usually have plenty of Mardi Gras beads and everyone has fun. Most importantly though, people who come will be able to hear Jeff Kidwell sing ‘Hard Hearted Hannah,’” Gorrell added.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the UCO School of Music at 405-974-5004. Admission is free for Central students, faculty and staff with a Central I.D. Half of the proceeds will go toward Central Music scholarships and the rest will support the school.
