ALPHA TAU OMEGA FRATERNITY TO RETURN TO UCO CAMPUS

The University of Central Oklahoma’s community of Greek organizations continues to grow along with the university as a whole as the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity recolonizes it’s chapter on the Central campus this spring.

The fraternity originally founded its chapter on campus in 1962 and left in 2007.

“We are excited to welcome Alpha Tau Omega back to the University of Central Oklahoma.  The University of Central Oklahoma is a leadership university and membership in fraternities and sororities is one of premier opportunities for leadership development. Alpha Tau Omega is a pioneer fraternity in leadership development, so their addition is a perfect match,” said Jenna Lutz, assistant director Fraternity and Sorority Life at Central.

“This expansion can be attributed to the success of our current chapters along with an increase in interest students have in fraternity and sorority life.”

The fraternity is a part of the North-American Interfraternity Conference and will be a part of the Interfraternity Council (IFC) at Central.

Alpha Tau Omega will recruit its new colony of members in spring 2013.

Representatives from Alpha Tau Omega national headquarters will be on campus from Jan. 27 until Feb. 27, meeting with men who are interested in learning more about membership. The team will then select those whom they would like to invite to be a part of the colony based on membership requirements and the in-person meetings.

“Alpha Tau Omega will provide a new outlet for those who have not yet found their fit in the fraternity community. The fraternity is always looking for men who are seeking advancement in the areas of leadership, scholarship, and character. We believe there are men at UCO who will be a great fit for our organization,” said Austin Bivins, expansion and leadership consultant for Alpha Tau Omega national headquarters.

Central is home to six other IFC fraternities, including Acacia, Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Nu, Sigma Tau Gamma, and Tau Kappa Epsilon.
