UCO FORENSIC SCIENCE DIRECTOR RECEIVES AWARD FROM OKLAHOMA STATE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) awarded Dwight Adams, Ph.D., director of the University of Central Oklahoma W. Roger Webb Forensic Science Institute, the Director’s Award for Law Enforcement at the annual OSBI Awards Banquet at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum on Dec. 4.
This award is given every year to one law enforcement agency or individual per region and is reserved for those in law enforcement who, through individual talents and efforts, demonstrate outstanding service and a cooperative spirit in working with the OSBI.
“All of us at UCO are pleased and proud of the work of the Forensic Science Institute so skillfully and effectively led by Dr. Dwight Adams. We applaud this public recognition of Dwight’s substantive contributions in the field of law enforcement. He represents the unique combination of intelligence, service, insight, and passion as a teacher and as a leader,” said Central President Don Betz, Ph.D.
Prior to working at Central, Adams served 23 years as director of the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Va.
The Central graduate returned to his alma mater in 2006 to direct the Forensic Science Institute. The institute is devoted to academic excellence, through a unique multidisciplinary program, providing outstanding education, research, and professional training opportunities for practicing professionals, and undergraduate and graduate students.
“Dr. Adams is an outstanding professor and worthy of this award. His years of experience working in the field allow him to merge the theoretical with the application, allowing him to be a successful teacher. He also learns all of his 150 student’s first names before classes start and greets them by name as they enter the classroom on the first day,” added Mark McCoy, Ph.D., associate professor and undergraduate program coordinator for the Forensic Science Institute and School of Criminal Justice.
