UCO RAISES A ‘TOAST TO THE MAESTRO’ WITH CONCERT FEATURING ARTIST IN RESIDENCE VALERY KULESHOV
The University of Central Oklahoma will present Valery Kuleshov, renowned pianist and UCO Artist in Residence, in a special event titled “Toast to the Maestro,” the College of Fine Arts and Design’s annual fundraising concert, at 7 p.m., Dec. 5 at the UCO Jazz Lab located at 100 E. Fifth St. in Edmond.
Fresh off a recent international tour, Kuleshov will perform works by composers Robert Schumann, Alexander Scriabin, and Sergei Rachmaninov.
Kuleshov is an honored artist of the Russian Federation who has won numerous international and national awards for his expert piano performances. He was the silver medalist, second prize and special prizewinner at the Ninth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and won first prize at the Pro Piano International Competition in New York.
“Our donors always look forward to this signature event with Maestro Kuleshov. It is a very moving experience watching the virtuoso of a pianist of this caliber,” said Lori Alspaugh, development director for the College of Fine Arts and Design.
Casey Cross, Central piano performance major, will open the concert with “Cloches á Travers les Feuilles” by Claude Debussy and “Mephisto Waltz No. 1 in A minor” by Franz Liszt.
Cross has competed and placed in various regional competitions and has contributed notable performances to UCO School of Music honor recitals. Recently, he premiered his own sonata, which he performed at UCO President Don Betz’s inauguration in May.
“Kuleshov is a dynamic, sensitive pianist with a genuine passion for music. There is always something to learn from watching him play,” said Cross.
Sweets and spirits will be provided to guests attending the event.
