UCO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2011 DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD RECIPIENTS
The University of Central Oklahoma Alumni Association will recognize five recipients as Distinguished Alumni at the annual Central Homecoming 2011 Alumni Recognition Ceremony at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30 in the Grand Ballrooms of the Nigh University Center.
This year's distinguished Central alumni include Sherry Beasley, owner of Interior Images, Inc.; Deborah Bruce, executive director, Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners; J. Don Harris, doctor of Dental Surgery and founder of D-Dent; Brigadier General (Retired) Robert D. Ireton; and Joe Siano, Ph.D., superintendent of Norman Public Schools.
A committee of UCO alumni board members selected the recipients based on peer recommendations and notable accomplishments in one of three categories: professional, community service, and university service. The UCO Alumni Association has given the awards annually since the inception of the program in 1952.
"These men and women have distinguished themselves as leaders and innovators in their careers and the communities they serve," said Al Jones, director of the UCO Alumni Association.
"Homecoming provides us with the perfect opportunity to honor the hard work and accomplishments of these distinguished Central alumni."
At the reception, the association will also honor the Doug Duke family as the 2011 Central Family of the Year. The award is given annually to a family who has a long line of members who have attended and/or graduated from UCO and continue to stay involved with the university.
The reception will include a formal awards presentation with video highlights of the honorees' lifetime accomplishments as well as an opportunity to reconnect with alumni.
Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased by calling the UCO Alumni Association at (405) 974-2421. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, Sept. 23.
The UCO Alumni Association promotes the general welfare of UCO through its members while strengthening the relationship and communication among graduates; current students, faculty, and staff; and friends of the university.
