UCO CHEER AND POM SQUADS RECEIVE NATIONAL CAMP HONORS
The University of Central Oklahoma cheer and pom squads took top honors recently at the National Cheerleading Association (NCA)/National Dance Association (NDA) summer camp.
Central’s cheer squad won second place in their division, earning a “silver paid bid,” meaning half of their expenses are covered, to the NCA National Championships in spring 2012. The squad placed second at the 2011 championships in April.
The cheer team also won “Most Collegiate,” “Best Rally Routine” and “Gameday Top Team” at the camp.
Central’s pom squad placed first in their division, earning a “gold paid bid,” meaning all of their expenses are covered, to the NDA National Championships. The squad also placed second at the 2011 nationals.
Additionally, the pom team won “Most Collegiate” and “Best All-Around.”
Individually, Central cheerleaders Jazmin Atkinson of Oklahoma City, Ashley Daignault of Broken Arrow, Amanda Estes of Laredo, Tex., and Brooke Tomlinson of Norman were named NCA All-Americans.
Central pom squad members named NDA All-Americans were Alyssa Bland of Moore, Chelsie Cleary of Moore, Jaimie George of Yukon, Lauren Pettus of Tahlequah and Destiny Schmidt of Moore.
Bland was also honored with the “Top Gun Jumps and Leaps” award.
Central’s cheer and pom squads consistently rank among the top in the nation, and have won eight national titles since 2002.
